CBS to Re-Air the Billy Joel Concert After Broadcast Cut-off

CBS just announced that the network will rebroadcast Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden special in its entirety this Friday on April 19th. This comes after last Sunday’s initial broadcast in some parts of the country cut out in the middle of Joel’s signature hit “Piano Man”.

“A network programming timing error ended last night’s Billy Joel special approximately two minutes early in the Eastern and Central Time Zones,” CBS said in a statement. “We apologize to Mr. Joel, his fans, our affiliated stations, and our audience whose viewing experience was interrupted during the last song.”

Due to the overwhelming demand from his fans, Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden will be rebroadcast in its entirety on CBS this Friday at 9:00 PM ET/PT.

Fans Express Outrage on Social Media

Fans took to social media to express their outrage over the abrupt ending of the initial broadcast. Many were disappointed with the excessive number of commercials, the omission of Joel’s best songs, the disorder of the set list, and the sudden cut-away to local news in the middle of “Piano Man”.

One disgruntled viewer tweeted, “You couldn’t produce a worse product than CBS just did on the Billy Joel special. Way too many commercials, didn’t play some of his best songs, went extremely out of order in his set list, and then cuts away to the local news in the middle of Piano Man?!? A total flop by CBS.”

Billy Joel fans were disappointed with CBS’s decision to cut the concert short and demanded a re-scheduling of the broadcast. “@CBS You just might have to re-schedule Billy Joel’s concert that your affiliates cut short to go to local late-night news. We fans are not happy. And there are a lot of TV, etc. viewing options other than you…. You need to bring him back,” tweeted a concerned fan.

The Rescheduled Broadcast and Other Viewing Options

CBS has decided to rebroadcast Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden in response to the outcry. In addition to the CBS rebroadcast, the concert special is also available in full on Paramount+.

The concert, which celebrated Joel’s 100th and final residency show at Madison Square Garden, took place on March 28th. Now, fans who missed parts of the broadcast and those who want to relive the concert experience can catch the special on CBS or stream it on Paramount+.

“How do you cut a Billy Joel Concert in the Middle of Piano Man?!”

Barstool Sports shared a clip of the truncated song and expressed their dismay over the broadcast’s sudden end.
