PLN 30 – more or less this is the price of one MWh on the Polish Power Exchange in June 2020 (average transaction price). A year later it was around PLN 140 depending on the contract.
The price increase on the stock exchange by almost 400 percent was just that. The Energy Regulatory Office motivates its decision made on Friday. He approved a 12.7% increase in rates for households.
Let us recall that the previous rate hike took place in April and amounted to nearly 6 percent. Now it will be twice as severe.
“This means an increase in average payments by 11.4% for users who use it high-methane gas and Ls nitrogen-rich gas and by 11.5 percent. for customers using Lw nitrogen-rich gas, “we read in the statement of the Energy Regulatory Office.
As the ERO explains, apart from the increase in gas prices, distribution fees should also be taken into account.
“Therefore, due to the current change in the tariff PGNiG IP and at the applicable distribution rates of Polska Spółka Gazownictwa, an increase in comprehensive payments (i.e. the total gas bill and its delivery) to customers will be lower than the increase in the price of gas itself“- informs the Office.
What does this mean in practice? “For the statistical recipient in the W-1.1 group consuming gas fuel to prepare meals, the payment for gas will be higher by 5.35%, which means an increase in its payments by amount by about PLN 1 per month“- explains the ERO in the press release.
Those who use gas, for example to heat water at home, will feel much more rises. In their case, the payment will increase by 7.45% and the increase will be PLN 6.71 per month.
“On the other hand, customers who consume larger amounts of fuel, i.e. who also heat their homes with gas (tariff group W-3.6), will pay about PLN 20 a month more (increase in payments by 7.9 percent) “- informs the ERO.
An increase in gas prices also automatically means higher inflation. This is seen by PKO BP analysts who forecast that “the probability that we will see at the end of the year increases inflation of 5 percent. “
MBank’s experts are of a similar opinion. For them, the August hike immediately “raises” inflation by at least 0.1 percentage point. “This is not the end” – analysts say.
