Transmission in neutral
No, you don’t really have to shift gears at junctions or when driving uphill with a modern automatic gearbox. In other words, it can be said that you wouldn’t even do it they shouldn’t have deleted. How come? Unfortunately the manufacturers often don’t even mention it in the manuals, but for example with a planetary gearbox with hydraulic converter, when the gear is engaged, before reinserting the “D” or other, they should have stopped earlier.
It is theoretically possible to disable the DSG gearbox, but even there it doesn’t make much sense, because newer cars do it themselves using navigation mode. I generally am automatic transmissions constructed so that the driver simply enters “D” before setting off and “P” after reaching the destination. At the same time, they don’t have to solve anything or worry about standing on the brakes while waiting at traffic lights. Car manufacturers or gearboxes count on this. What they don’t count on is something accidental initiative by the driver and trying to “lighten” the car.
You don’t have to deal with little contractions and things like that
On the contrary! Something extraordinary happens with the automatic gearbox, needs to be fixed. They are quite sophisticated mechanical machines filled with electronics or hydraulics. Again, there aren’t that many faults that would stop the car right away, in fact, most of them usually show up and become noticeable over a longer period of time. But the driver has no idea that a disaster is coming, even a minor one ignore the problem and learn to deal with it. Over time, it will recover when it occurs and adapt to it, for example by pressing harder on the accelerator pedal so that the control unit approaches higher revs. Failure to deal with early symptoms will one day result in the usual rather expensive and time consuming repairor direct gearbox review.
A properly functioning automatic transmission shifts smoothly, free and consistent twitch. The wear and tear is compensated for by the control unit, which gradually adjusts its values and adapts. But this cannot be done indefinitely, not even the range of the fit values it has its limits and after them a service intervention is absolutely necessary. By the way, most of the problems with moving will also be solved just an oil change.
The oil filling is for life
The last big myth is related to the previous point. It’s the grease in the locker it really is for life, but a certain service life of the vehicle is calculated, which automakers plan for 150-250 thousand kilometers. Anyone who wants their car to last longer should have a refill change every 30-60 thousand kilometersdepending on the type of machine. The oil degrades, it loses its properties and thickens. Furthermore, they are gradually filled with all kinds of abrasion and sawdust (although most of it is caught by magnets and filters), which is definitely not good for the mechanics. And last but not least, the lubricant should also transmit pressures in the hydraulics, by switching the clutches on and off, for example. That’s why it should be changed, to ensure its proper functioning.
