In Cameroon, regional elections are being held this Sunday. The grand voters must nominate the 90 elected representatives of each of the 10 regions, that is to say 900 councilors in total. And one of the main issues of this election is security.
This Sunday morning, some major voters have already come to vote, reports our special correspondent, Jeanne Richard. Security searches, wearing a mask, disinfecting the hands and taking a temperature are compulsory before being able to vote, a strict protocol while in the city no one practices distancing measures. Each receives, in accordance with the law, an indemnity of 50,000 francs for this vote.
In Bastos public school in Yaoundé, where RFI is located, only municipal councilors come to vote. The traditional chiefs’ polling stations are located in another location.
Let us recall that at the level of each region, 70 regional councilors come from political parties and are elected by municipal councilors and 20 regional councilors from traditional chiefdoms are elected by their peers.

If these major voters respect their political affiliation, the CPDM, the ruling party is assured of a landslide victory in the country. There are no surprises to be expected in terms of the results.
One of the challenges of the ballot: security
It will be necessary to monitor the English-speaking regions where the separatists have instituted a curfew for a few days and threatened those who would get involved in the poll.
On social networks, the images circulating already show empty streets in the cities of the two English-speaking regions.
