The Big Mac is back on the menu at McDonald’s Russian Substitute | Economy

The new manager of the former McDonald’s in Russia is doing everything possible to regain access to ingredients and materials. French fries are expected to be available everywhere again soon, and the restaurant chain is also adding a Big Mac replacement to the menu.

When McDonald’s closed its branches in Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine, the restaurants were bought by Russian Alexander Govor. The restaurants continued under the name Vkusno & Tochka (“Just Tasty”).

Due to the abandonment of the American fast food chain, Russians had to do without the iconic double burger for a while as there was no substitute for the product. Also, some Vkusno & Tochka restaurants didn’t have french fries on the menu earlier this year due to the potato shortage in Russia.

After taking over the Russian McDonald’s restaurants, the new owner took over a packaging company and a logistics company. It recently agreed with meatmaker Miratorg to build a factory in Russia in 2023 to supply the chain with French fries and potato wedges. By producing everything restaurants need, from packaging to ingredients, in Russia, the company avoids international sanctions.
