Beloved colleagues and friends were the pilots Petko Dimitrov and Vencislav Dunkin who died in the accident near Graf Ignatievo. The recognition was made in an interview for BNT by the Deputy Chief of Defense and Air Force General Tsanko Stoykov.
I knew them both. Lieutenant Colonel Dimitrov and I even had joint flights. He was a well-prepared methodical pilot who was able to train his subordinate airmen properly and give them the necessary motivation, said Gen. Stoykov.
“The report as made objectively reflects the flight that they flew, because reading the parameters from the ‘black box’ there’s no way that wouldn’t happen. I believe it reflects 100% what they flew as a specific flight at the dress rehearsal”, the officer commented on the report announced by the Ministry of Defense yesterday.
“The parameters of the black box are what they are. The very finding of unreasonable risk is made on the basis of what they read from the black box data,” he clarified.
The circumstances are as stated, added Lt. Gen. Tsanko Stoykov.
“This is the moral responsibility of a commander. To see two empty places in the formation, to see two empty workplaces in the office for preliminary training of the flight crew, for the whole team to live with the feeling that they are no longer there. This is the moral responsibility he pointed out.
So far, no resignations have been submitted, the general specified. He added that two commissions are working on the case of the fatal accident, one of which is the Military Police, which investigates aviation accidents. She completed her work and presented the facts and circumstances that they found.
“The other inspection by the Military District Prosecutor’s Office in Plovdiv, which is still clarifying the circumstances, has not been completed. Criminal responsibility is being sought there from this commission. By Ministerial order, a working group was appointed with me as chairman and expert members from the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Headquarters.” Gen explained. Stoykov.
The plane passed all checks, clearances for the specific flight, the officer said, adding that the two dead “did not eject because they thought the plane was controllable. All systems were working normally.”
“If there were circumstances that they judged to be dangerous and threaten the normal performance of the figure, I think they would have taken such actions,” said Gen. Stoykov.
