The big difference for the price of mussels and fries at the Sea: from 16 to… 27 €!


The rates vary greatly depending on the standing of the station. In a few kilometers, prices can explode.

A vacation at the North Sea inevitably saves money on the journey, or even accommodation when you know an owner or a good plan. But the cost of living is much higher than in Spain or Italy.

And prices even vary from station to station. Whether you are in Knokke, Blankenberge, De Panne or Ostende, prices can vary from around ten euros for the same dish. We did the test on two flagship dishes from the Coast, the traditional mussels and fries and the duo of shrimp croquettes (see average prices elsewhere) and the results are sometimes very different just a few kilometers away, with a large difference between a restaurant displaying 16.20 euros in De Panne, against 29 euros in Ostend! And even if good plans exist, for example crossing the border to go to Sluis, in the Netherlands, it goes without saying that eating out at a restaurant along the seawall is not cheap.
