The Biden government now says it plans to build the missing “holes” in the border wall with Mexico

The controversy is served in the United States. Shortly after Joe Biden took office, in February, the President published a letter in which he claimed that he had instructed that “Not a dollar more from US taxpayers will go to build a border wall”. However, it seems that now they intend to resume work to cover the “holes” currently in the wall.

This was assured by the Secretary of National Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, who told the employees, according to the Washington Times, that construction could resume to fill the gaps in the current barrier between the United States and Mexico, as his administration continues to grapple with a growing immigration crisis that includes a record number of illegal crossings.

Mayorkas reportedly presented a report to the employees of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service on future plans. There he acknowledged that despite the fact that President Joe Biden canceled the “national emergency” imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump on migration, this does not necessarily imply that they stop “making decisions”.

According to the report, they must resume “particular projects that need to be completed.” These settings will include “gaps”, “doors” and “specific areas” in which, it has not yet been possible to “properly implement the technology, detailed the Secretary of National Security.

The moment chosen to cover the “gaps” does not seem like a coincidence. American authorities more than 171,000 migrants were detained at the border with Mexico in March, which means a record monthly figure in 20 years. In addition, the total number of migrants includes some 19,000 unaccompanied migrant children and 53,000 family members traveling together.

Donald Trump began construction of the wall after declaring a national emergency for immigration. This was the only way he could access the nearly $ 6 billion in military funds, as Congress denied his request. With that amount, the Trump administration carried out the construction of 720 kilometers of wall on the southern border, whose total extension is 3,145 kilometers, although it is true that many parts of the wall were made in areas where there was already some type of barrier.
