ORffenbach ⋅ In addition to local public transport, the bicycle as a means of transport is of exceptional importance for the desired traffic reversal in the plans of the Offenbach traffic light coalition. For this to work, the cycleways and cycle paths that have been laid out must also be cleared of snow and ice in winter to ensure safe progress. Therefore, at the next city council meeting, with the votes of the SPD, the Greens and the FDP, Offenbach’s winter statute should be changed accordingly, as Tobias Dondelinger, parliamentary group leader of the Greens a Offenbach communicate.
According to him, currently it is not always clearly regulated who has to authorize them. The city of Offenbach (ESO) is responsible for the so-called independent routes. This includes, for example, the cycle connection between Bieber and Offenbach-Ost. In the case of combined footpaths and cycle paths, which are dependent cycle paths in official German, the residents are responsible. According to Dondelinger, the amended winter statute should for the first time also regulate who has to clear ordinary cycle paths, cycle paths and cycle zones. “More and more cyclists are also out and about in winter and will be able to rely on clearing their routes of snow and ice in the future. This is another small step on the road to equal rights for bicycle, car and pedestrian traffic,” says Dondelinger.
