– The nearly 17-kilometer bike path completed in Hungarian-Slovak cooperation was handed over on Wednesday, which connects Párkány with Helemba on the Slovak side, and then leads through the new bridge through Ipolydamásd to Letkés along the Ipoly.
As part of the project called Bike Paradise, a total of 16.88 kilometers of bicycle paths were built in the two countries, with 7 rest stops and 80 information boards, said Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior and a Fidesz member of parliament, in his welcome speech in Helembán, Slovakia.
He pointed out that the development in the Danube Bend and the lower reaches of the Ipoly created a tourist opportunity that can offer families and groups of friends a shared experience.
Máriusz Révész, the State Secretary responsible for active Hungary at the Prime Minister’s Office, said that the bicycle path brings Hungarians and Slovaks closer together. Until now, it was not possible to cycle along the left bank of the Danube, but now you can cycle from Bratislava to Budapest, which is important in terms of tourism and the everyday life of the people living here, he noted.
The total budget of the cross-border project called Bike Paradise is 2.14 million euros (about 805 million forints), of which 1.127 million euros (424 million forints) were spent on the Slovak section and 0.92 million euros (346 million forints) on the Hungarian section , the Ister-Granum EGTC received 100,000 euros (HUF 35 million) for other tasks.
80 percent of the funds were provided by the European Union, 15 percent by the Hungarian and Slovak states, and 5 percent by the municipalities of Ipolydamásd and Párkány.
At the Helemba ceremony, Michal Kaliňák, State Secretary, Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatization, Slovakia, and Tibor Csenger, Vice President, Nyitra County Municipality, Slovakia, spoke.
