The Biblical Location of Armageddon: Megiddo in Northern Israel

In the New Testament, this settlement is called the place of the last battle between good and evil.

Scholars say the ancient city of Megiddo in northern Israel is the biblical site of Armageddon, where the final battle between good and evil will take place.

This is reported IFLScience.

The ancient city of Megiddo, now an archaeological site in northern Israel, is believed to have been inhabited for about six millennia, from around 7000 B.C.

In the New Testament, this settlement is called the place of the last battle between good and evil.

According to the Book of Revelation, the remaining battle is to take place when “demonic spirits” call “the kings of all the world to gather them for battle on the great day of God Almighty at the place which in Hebrew is called Harmageddon.”

The name subsequently transformed into Armageddon. But most scholars believe that it comes from the phrase “Gar Megiddo”, which means “mountain of Megiddo”.

Among the epic battles that took place in Megiddo was the war between the Egyptian army of Pharaoh Thutmose III and the Canaanite coalition of tribes in the 15th century BC, as a result of which Egypt seized control of much of the eastern Mediterranean.

Near Megiddo, almost a millennium later, during another war, Pharaoh Necho II conquered the kingdom of Judah. And already in the Newest era, at the end of the First World War, in 1918, the Entente countries defeated the army of the Ottoman Empire.

The initial excavations at Tel Megiddo were carried out between 1925 and 1929, revealing an incredible succession of civilizations that stretches all the way to the end of the Stone Age.

Today, Megiddo National Park, which includes an archaeological site, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist destination.

Earlier it was reported that two men were accused of witchcraft due to a severe thunderstorm and were buried alive.
