While we wait to know the definitive plans of the Chinese technology giant Xiaomi regarding electric cars, from time to time he lets us see that his intentions are much broader than we imagined in this matter.
This time he presents the prototype of an electric motorcycle developed by Segway, the iconic skateboard company bought by Ninebot (belonging to the Xiaomi Group) in 2015, and which as a novelty is powered by hydrogen, being the first proposal of its kind in the global market.
For now, the Segway Apex H2 is a concept of a hybrid motorcycle which has been on the market for a few years, but is now taking on the challenge of installing a fuel cell system to use hydrogen as fuel. It maintains a sporty profile, with minimalist details such as the windshield and headlights, as well as huge wheels that seem to float. It looks like something out of a science fiction movie.
In terms of technology, the brand indicates that it uses a 60 kW (about 82 Hp) motor and offers a consumption of 1 gram of hydrogen per kilometer traveled. The mark indicates that the 0 to 100 km / h is in 4 seconds and can reach about 150 km / h top speed.
The problem is that at least the prototype does not offer an external charging system, so the only way to use it when the hydrogen runs out is to replace the empty tank with a full one.
For now it is clearly a prototype, or a letter of intent if you prefer. The schedule provided by Ninebot indicates that the model could reach the market in 2023, and there is even a specific site for China where it is possible to reserve a unit, which would have an estimated price of 70 thousand yuan, about 10,500 dollars.
