The ranking of the best-selling cars in the world is dominated by representatives of Japanese brands. The Toyota and Honda models occupied the complete podium.

The year 2021 has been behind us for some time, so many carmakers have already evaluated it. Thanks to this, we already know which manufacturers were the largest in the last year affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This follows from the statistics of the Focus2move analytics server.
According to these statistics, the Japanese Toyota, which sold 8.06 million cars worldwide in 2020, again won the title of the world’s largest car brand. This means that it was one of the less affected brands of coronavirus pandemics, although its sales fell by 12.2% year on year. However, the decline was lower than in the competition.
Toyota thus continues to benefit from the strategy of betting primarily on a single brand. After all, it is Toyota that dominates the sales of the entire group of the same name, which is complemented only by the luxury Lexus, Daihatsu focused more on small vehicles and Hino focused on large trucks and buses. What a difference compared to the Volkswagen Group with its 12 brands or this year’s Stellantis even with 14 brands.

According to Focus2move, Volkswagen (as a separate brand) follows the second with 5.73 million cars sold, which was 16.8% less than a year earlier. Honda took third place, followed by Ford.
Although Tesla then ended up in 39th place in the brand ranking, as one of the few, its sales increased year-on-year. Focus2move talks about 538,038 cars sold, which was 46.2% more than in 2019. The American electric car manufacturer thus managed to exceed the limit of half a million cars sold in one year.

Toyota Group followed the second with 8.9 million cars sold, the third was the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance with 7.95 million cars sold. The fourth position was held by the Korean concern Hyundai-Kia with 6.52 million cars sold. This year, however, the newly formed Stellantis concern, created by the merger of FCA and PSA, is grinding its teeth in its position. Last year, these corporations took eighth and ninth place in this evaluation, respectively.

And what is the ranking of the best-selling passenger cars in the world? Toyota is again at the top in this evaluation, specifically again with its Corolla model. It reached 1,134,262 units sold, 8.8% less than in 2019. The second place was also occupied by a Toyota representative, SUV RAV4 with 971,516 units sold, thanks to which its sales even increased by 1.9% year-on-year.
This is followed by two Honda, the CR-V and the Civic, followed by the Volkswagen Tiguan. So he surpassed the Golf again last year, which is another proof of the worldwide popularity of SUVs. If American full-size pickups were included in the ladder, the Ford F-150 with 968,179 units sold would also be among the best.

The year-on-year increase is also reported by the seventh overall Nissan Sylphy (by 14.4%), a compact sedan primarily for China, for which sales of its new generation were fully launched last year. The top ten models are closed by a car whose pieces for Europe are manufactured in our country, a Hyundai Tucson with 462,110 units sold.
