The best quarterbacks in NFL history

football/nfl/story">

The 2000s were rich for the NFL with quarterbacks like Brady, Brees, Favre and company. Here are the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Tom Brady

With 7 Super Bowl rings and five MVP of the event, it’s hard to put Brady other than at the top of this list. He holds the record for the number of regular season wins and the number of touchdown passes. Most impressive ? His career is not yet over.

Joe Montana

A member of the Hall of Fame, Montana has never lost the Ultimate Game. He’s 4-0 in the Super Bowl. In the playoffs in 1989, Montana threw 19 touchdown passes against a single interception. On a regular basis, he has joined a receiver in the end zone on 273 occasions.

Peyton Manning

Five-time NFL MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion, Peyton Manning captured the imagination during his career with the Colts and Broncos. He is ranked third in touchdown passes (539) and passing yards (71,940).

Johnny Unitas

Three-time NFL champion (before the establishment of the Super Bowl) and once winner of the Lombardi Trophy, Unitas won the MVP three seasons in a row from 1959 to 1961.

Brett Favre

He’s the iron man in the NFL with 297 straight starts. He is fourth in history for touchdown passes (508) and passing yards (71,838). He is the first player in history to throw 35 touchdown passes in three seasons in a row.

Dan Marino

Yes, Marino never won the Super Bowl. He is, however, the first quarterback in history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season. He’s led the NFL in passing yards five times in his career.

Aaron Rodgers

Two MVP titles and a Super Bowl ring. Yet Rodgers’ career is far from over. When he retires, his stats will certainly put him in the top five quarterbacks in history.

Drew Brees

He fought a hot battle with Tom Brady throughout his career for the most passing yards. When he retired, he had more than 80,000 with 571 touchdowns. He completed 70 percent of his passes in four seasons, an NFL record. He also got his hands on the Super Bowl in 2009.

John Elway

Selected 9 times in the Pro Bowl, Elway has won the Super Bowl twice in the Broncos uniform. If his stats don’t put him in the top 10 best quarterbacks, we can say he was one of the best late in the game. He made no less than 40 winning streaks at the end of the game.

Roger Staubach

In his first full season as a starter, Staubach led the Cowboys to a perfect 13-0 record and a Super Bowl win. His win rate (0.746) is the second-best in quarterback history with over 100 starts. Not bad for a player who missed 4 seasons at the start of his career to join the military.
