The best photos of the Super Sturgeon Moon

This Monday, one of the most anticipated astronomical phenomena of this month of August took place: the Sturgeon Supermoon, a moon that was larger and brighter than usual.

The star could be seen from all over the world from sunset in each region, in the case of Spain it was seen at 20:26 peninsular time.

The Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza witnessed the supermoon

A curious thing about this moon is that it was also called a blue moon, since it was the third full moon of the month, as astrophysicist Alfred Rosenberg explained to RTVE.es.

Rosenberg said the third full moon of a month is also called a blue moon because it “broke the pattern of calendars, especially those dedicated to agriculture.”

Vigo was able to see the star a day before

The expert pointed out that since it is a full moon, it could be seen “a day or two before and after, it will also be seen that it is a little bigger.”

On the other hand, according to the scientist, the name of the star, Sturgeon, “is a historical name” that comes from North America. He also adds that each month the moon “has a specific name” and that it is different in each culture.

It is also classified as a supermoon, since, as the professional indicates, it is because it has an elliptical orbit “when the Moon approaches the Earth, we can see it larger.”

This supermoon is not the only one we will see this year. On September 18, October 17 and November 15 we will again have the opportunity to enjoy this very special phenomenon.
