TVHe is the most famous resident of Leuven, she is an articulate Deerlijke resident and ‘full-time crazy person’. Jordy and Els, Jonas Van Geel’s popular characters, are ready for a top transfer. After they made VTM’s social media unsafe last year, they now get their own TV program. In ‘The Best of 2023’ the pair – together with three other characters – will comment on the most important moments of the past year, and crown their main bird every week.
YEEEP! The Jordy is back, baby. After Jonas Van Geel’s character made Ibiza unsafe during the summer months, he can now work in primetime. Together with Els, in ‘The Best of 2023’ he gives his unvarnished opinion – seasoned with a touch of humor – about the most important moments of the past television year. The duo is assisted in this by the (made up) Antwerp stylist Dominique and friends Nora and Debora. “Every week a different theme is central,” explains interpreter Jonas Van Geel. “We look – among other things – at the best television moment of the year, and find out who is the most unlucky. Those winners will then receive a trophy from Jordy and Els. You can compare the design a bit with the British ‘Gogglebox’, in which – albeit real – duos comment on news facts. I do everything myself. Believe me: the recordings are very lonely. (laughs)”

He considers it a great honor that Van Geel is following in the footsteps of ‘Typical Chris’ – in which Chris Van den Durpel played various characters. “He created something that Flanders did not yet know, with a lasting impact. When viewers now make the link between Chris and Jonas, I am especially humbled. And I am happy, because that is a very nice compliment. From VTM it is a vote of confidence that I can make such a program.”
TV-renaissance
While his VTM colleagues were omnipresent in recent months, this did not appear to be the case with Jonas. A conscious choice, Van Geel explains. “In recent months I have played in ‘Red Star Line’ and ‘Les Misérables’, recorded the VTM GO shortie ‘Jordy doet Ibiza’ and presented ‘I can see your voice’. I didn’t sit still, but I was seen on television less. In addition, I had also expressed to VTM my desire to focus more on comedy. But that’s not a genre you can get started with right away. Now that there is enough material, I’m looking forward to my TV renaissance. It may become something more. Or as Jordy would say: rakketakketak (laughs)”
