* Metroidvania is a game genre that combines design elements inspired by the Metroid and Castlevania series. This type is characterized by gameplay that focuses on exploration, returning to previous areas (Backup), and gaining new abilities to unlock new areas.
STALLCRAFT
STALCRAFT started as a Minecraft add-on inspired by the STALKER series, and then got its own engine and full development. Developed by EXBO, the game is a unique revival of the popular survival series based on the Chernobyl disaster, but in a special Voxel style*. Don’t let the cute visuals fool you, this is still a tough survival game that will put you up against tough challenges.
The Zone is huge and full of terrifying mutant creatures waiting to prey on you. To add more difficulties, you will meet other players in the area, which can be friendly or dangerous depending on your luck. There is a story with cutscenes, lots of loot to find, and many factions you can join if you want. If you are a fan of the STALKER series and need an experience to fill your time until the next installment comes out, STALCRAFT is a great choice.
* Voxel is short for Volumetric Pixel, which is a design pattern in games that relies on using small 3D cubes (Voxels) to build the world and characters. This approach is visually similar to pixel technology, but it adds a third dimension so that each cube is part of the 3D world.
I see Red
Twin-stick shooters are always fun to experience, and I See Red proudly delivers that experience. This roguelike-style game puts you in the role of a clone, where death is only a small obstacle, and you begin your journey of revenge across the stars.
You will face fast-paced battles, and with a large arsenal of weapons at your disposal, you will find diverse and wild ways to take revenge. In addition to the large number of weapons, there are skills and abilities that you can use to turn into a mobile killing machine. The art style is attractive, and there is a clear attention to small details in the gameplay experience. If you’re looking for an exciting arcade experience, try I See Red.
Warden
Deep space exploration has never been so deep, and Small Impact Games in collaboration with Team17 seems to have found a treasure with Marauders. This first-person tactical game sends you and a small crew of friends on a quest to find equipment and resources aboard spaceships.
Of course, these vessels are full of defenders that don’t yield easily. Fortunately, there are many opportunities to acquire new equipment, with the ability to instantly upgrade your equipment using the parts you find from defeated defenders. However, getting out of these incidents safely is the biggest challenge. Although it’s still in Early Access, Marauders is showing a lot of positive signs and is worth checking out even if you don’t decide to try it yet.
Cave Digging 2: Dig Harder
Cave Digger 2: Dig Harder, developed by VRKiwi, takes the underground adventure experience to a whole new level and is suitable for those who love the atmosphere of mines and caves. In the game, you will encounter large mines, sunken caves, and traces of ancient civilizations waiting for those who have the courage to find them.
The game is full of underground challenges, and for those who want to adventure alone or with friends, a variety of weapons and tools that you can craft, as well as valuable treasures that increase your abilities, await with you in the hidden tunnels. The caves are constantly changing, there are extensive customization options to add your own personal touch to the viewer, and the game also has a story with multiple endings. Cave Digger 2 offers an enjoyable experience to spend hours digging and exploring the depths.
The Ascent
The game Ascent developed by Neon Giant made a big splash when it was released in 2021. It is set in the world of Cyberpunk, where big corporations control everything, and most people live in high towers on the planet Veles. After a series of unfortunate events, you are tasked with climbing to the top of the tower to save your neighborhood from destruction.
The game offers a large number of customization options and types of weapons to suit different play styles, and features stunning, detailed levels set in a complex futuristic world. You can play solo or co-op with a friend, and there’s plenty of loot, quests, enemies to take down, and new friends to make along the way.
