What is May the 4th anyway?
Anyone who has been a LEGO or Star Wars fan for a long time already knows what the May the 4th campaign is all about. For everyone else, here’s a little explanation: The official Star Wars Day is celebrated annually on May 4th. The reason for this is the English pronunciation of the date (May, the 4th), since it corresponds to the pronunciation of the phrase “May the force be with you” (May the force be with you).
The pun was first used in 1979 when British Conservatives placed an ad in the newspaper London Evening News on the occasion of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s inauguration on May 4th. There it said “May the fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations.” Star Wars Day has also been officially celebrated since 2011 and LEGO has always been involved with various activities every year.
The corresponding special goodies, which LEGO always distributes for the event from a certain purchase value, are also very popular among most collectors.
