21:21 – Mohamed Ihattaren was brought back to the Netherlands by Ajax in the winter, but the question is whether the attacking midfielder will make minutes in the main squad this season. Mario Been and Kees Kwakman think that the chance is small after the words of Erik ten Hag, who did not mince his words about the duel with SC Cambuur on Friday evening.
“I want to have him at the first, but he has to do that himself,” the Ajax coach said in front of ESPN’s camera. “If you can’t run, then it stops. I mean running at Eredivisie or Champions League level. Then you are asked that you can make meters and meters in high speed. And if you can’t and you sit below a certain limit, then everything stops.”
Mario Been does not find it very strange that the talented footballer needs time to hook up. He has not played a single game this season. “If you haven’t played like him for such a time and you have to connect to the level of a Champions League team, that is of course not easy. It is really very difficult. He will first have to make his mark at Young Ajax, but he hasn’t done that yet.”
Ihattaren was picked up by Juventus last summer after a difficult PSV season. The Italian top club immediately rented him out to Sampdoria, but that was anything but a success. He did not play a minute for the club from Genoa, which Ajax managed to take advantage of last winter. He is therefore not in the plans for the time being. “It is also best for Ihattaren itself to first make some minutes in Jong”, says Kwakman at De Eretribune.
