Slovakian hockey defenseman Šimon Nemec from the overseas AHL team Utica Comets is a highly rated young player with great potential for the future as the incumbent number two of the NHL rookie draft.
According to overseas expert Scott Wheeler from The Athletic magazine, the 18-year-old native of Liptovský Mikuláš is one of the most talented players drafted by the New Jersey Devils club in recent years. He placed him in second place in the ranking of the fifteen greatest hopes.
“The German is an intelligent and versatile defender who can organize play, take the puck out of the defensive zone and set up a counterattack. He uses his excellent mobility to create play and deceive opponents with and without the puck. He is very mature for his age. Even though he is not yet so dynamic and different offensively, he has great talent. He knows when and how to attack and also when to stay back and defend. He already has the character of a professional and defends excellently.” wrote Wheeler about the German and compared him to a Slovak legend.

“I expect him to be the best Slovak defenseman since Zdena Chara and a member of the first formation who will play efficiently and modernly. He plays with great ease and looks natural on the ice. He distributes short passes and controls the game effectively. He doesn’t stand out all the time, but he shines when the team needs him. His playing style is an example of how his position should be played in the future.” added the expert to the bronze medalist from the 2022 Beijing Olympics. In 38 games this season, he collected 17 points (6+11) in the Comets jersey.
