The company InstantOffices made a rating of the best cities for remote workers who travel and work at the same time – the so-called “digital nomads”. The evaluation is done in 2023.
About 80 places were studied, which stand out for their accessibility this year. And also: weather, internet speed, quality of life, economic practicality, etc.
According to researchers, there are already 35 million digital nomads worldwide. This trend is driven by technology, the growing demand for flexible workspace and the growing adoption of hybrid working.
Therefore, ahead of all the other cities analyzed, Lisbon ranked first. The city is ideal for cheap, delicious food, beautiful weather and scenery, and excellent infrastructure. One of the sunniest places in Europe, the Portuguese coastal capital has over 7,000 Wi-Fi access points, fast broadband access.
In second place was Bangkok, which offers tempting local cuisine, street food markets, over 15,000 Wi-Fi hotspots and some of the most affordable accommodation of any city surveyed.
Asia
More than half of the analyzed cities in the top 60 are located in Asia. Cities like Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong it offers travel experiences, scenery and food, as well as excellent connectivity, infrastructure and a moderate cost of living.
Beijing boasts the fastest broadband speed of all the locations analyzed at 260 Mbps. The top 10 in terms of connection quality and speed include Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai and Bangkok. Jakarta has the largest number of Wi-Fi hotspots in the Asia-Pacific region, with over 97,000.
Neighboring countries in the Asia-Pacific region also top the list of digital nomads. At the same time, Australia and New Zealand offers many co-working spaces and the most attractive sunny weather of all countries.
Europa
Europe is one of the most popular destinations for digital nomads and the second most popular continent on the list. Researchers point to the region’s rich history, excellent transportation and travel opportunities where you can spend a weekend visiting Paris, catch a train back to London, and arrive in time for work on Monday.
For those who like the Mediterranean climate, Lisbon and Thessaloniki – warm coastal cities with a gentle pace of life, have the highest quality of life in the whole world. Vienna and Zurich also entered the top. Geneva is also in the top five, making Switzerland a highly desirable place to live and work.
Jacksonville tops the list of the best cities for digital nomads in the US in 2023. This location offers great year-round weather, plenty of beach access, the highest quality of life of any US city reviewed, and access to amenities world class.
Other US locations such as Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, combining the benefits of flexible office space, connectivity, transport infrastructure and travel options, also make them attractive places to live, work and to have fun.
