The Best Camera That Doesn’t Disappoint

At the end of 2020, Huawei Indonesia launched a mobile phone Huawei Mate 40 Pro. Mate is Huawei’s flagship series that emphasizes a large screen size and components with the latest technology.

Design

By design, the Huawei Mate is quite large. The screen is waterfall style, which extends to the side of the phone.

So that it seems wider than a cellphone with an ordinary standard screen. It looks like this kind of design is the trend of most flagship phones in 2020.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro which is present in Indonesia only has mystic silver color. This material is very interesting because when it is exposed to light, the color reflection will change like a hologram, giving it a futuristic and luxurious impression.

Main Camera

This cellphone camera module is arranged in a circle and in the middle is written Leica, a well-known camera manufacturer brand that has collaborated with Huawei since 2016.

If you look at the main camera specifications, Huawei uses a very large sensor for the cellphone class, namely 1 / 1.28 inch, which means almost the same as a premium compact camera. This sensor architecture is rather unique, it uses a RYYB (Red Yellow Yellow Blue) color filter instead of RGGB (Red Green Green Blue) like a regular Bayer filter.

RYYB has started to be used in the P30 series and makes this camera’s ability to be superior in dark conditions because the yellow color (yellow) absorbs more light than green.

Indeed, there is a risk that certain colors may shift unnatural, but Huawei uses complex software algorithms to make the colors look normal. This main camera is quite wide, 23mm with a resolution of 50mm and an aperture of f / 1.9.

The choice of photo styles on the Huawei Mate is quite a lot, starting with Leica Standard, Vivid and Smooth, now there are many more, for example, there is a high contrast black and white style (Impac) and photo styles resembling old school films such as Valencia and Nostalgia.

When testing the performance of this camera, I like to use the high contrast B&W mode, especially when combined with the telephoto lens especially for distant subjects.
