What is the best built-in refrigerator with freezer? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association responds.
If you buy a built-in fridge with a freezer, you choose a fridge that forms a whole with your kitchen. You often buy it together with the kitchen. This makes replacement more difficult. So make sure that the fridge fits in your kitchen.
Built-in refrigerators are generally more expensive than freestanding models. If you buy it together with other equipment for your kitchen, you can often negotiate the price.
The Consumers’ Association tests refrigerators with a freezer for cooling and freezing performance, ease of use and energy consumption, among other things. A total of almost 180 refrigerators were tested, of which 40 built-in refrigerators with a freezer.
Of the forty built-in refrigerators tested, an AEG model is the Best in the Test. A refrigerator from Samsung is Best Buy.

Choose the best fridge for you
This built-in refrigerator with freezer from AEG is the Best in the Test for a reason. It quickly cools your food to the set temperature and keeps it fairly constant, even in a (very) warm environment. The same applies to freezing fresh food. Furthermore, the device makes little noise. The refrigerator has a door-to-door hinge.
The refrigerator compartment has a usable volume of 140 liters and the freezer compartment (at the bottom) has a usable volume of 46 litres. The manufacturer specifies more volume, but the Consumers’ Association measures the actual usable storage space. So the contents of drawers and the space on plateaus, racks and in compartments and trays. Empty space is not counted.
The freezer compartment is ‘no frost’, so in principle you no longer have to defrost this freezer, because no ice deposits are formed. That is very pleasant to use. Built-in refrigerators are usually less energy efficient than freestanding refrigerators. This AEG is no exception, but for a built-in fridge the energy consumption is okay.

Choose the best refrigerator for you
This built-in fridge from Samsung performs a bit less than the Best in the Test, but it’s still a good fridge. It keeps the temperature nice and stable, even when it is (very) hot or cold in the kitchen. The refrigerator has a sliding door hinge.
The refrigerator compartment has a usable volume of 138 liters and the freezer compartment (at the bottom) has a usable volume of 48 litres. So slightly less and more than with the Best in Test. This built-in fridge also has a ‘no frost’ freezer compartment, so you don’t have to defrost as often.
The energy consumption is comparable to that of the Best in the Test. It does produce a little more noise, but fortunately it is not a real noise maker. All in all, this model has an excellent price-quality ratio.
