The Best Boating Articles of the Year

Rescue of the Year – M/Y Salome

The NK director Josef Sachs fantastic saloon boat Salome from 1907 has long lain dormant in Småland after a stalled renovation.

After new owners came in, however, the yacht has been moved to the Yachtsnickeriet in Nacka, where the renovation has now taken off well.

To have this representative of the very earliest generation of saloon boats on the water again would be a great event for Swedish boating culture.

The most persistent of the year – Storebro Passion

It is not only Solö boats that have been built in Storebro. This is called Britt-Marie and was built in one copy. Jens Oelerking has a handle on them all. (Photo: Storebro Passion)

Jens Oelerking is the name of the man who for a decade has been keeping the entire history and archive from the Storebro factory in Småland in order.

With a sense of purpose and a burning interest, he constantly scans the classic boat community worldwide in search of existing Storebro boats and then enters it into his magical archive.

Storebro Passion is the name of his creation on Facebook. Don’t miss it.

And here you will find the link to the website.

Loss of the year – Owe Forslund

Owe Forslund discusses boats with, among others, HM Carl XVI Gustaf at an All for the Lake event in the early 1970s. However, no Forslund boat was ever sold to the royal family. (Photo: All for the Lake)

When the master and constructor Owe Forslund passed away on October 29 this year, the last great boat designer left his drawing board.

As son of Gideon Forslund Owe had been born into the motorboat world and seen and heard most of what was worth knowing.

Added to this was his own fantastic deed, which today we find difficult to understand how great it was.

Owe – you are missed. Now the rest of us get to trust our memories.

This year’s TV program – Micke’s boat

With a calm and gentle hand, Micke Leijnegard guided us at home on the sofa to the launch of the mahogany snipe Moster Jann. (Photo: SVT)

With calm in his voice and stress in his soul took Micke Leijnegard with the Swede into his shed on Långholmen in Stockholm and the spring armoring of the wooden boat Moster Jann.

During a few 15-minute programs last fall, we got to follow Micke’s fight against the launch clock and then collectively exhale when his Johansson & Son snipe floated – and eventually started.

Valuable PR for the hobby to be able to show live the community and joy of having a wooden boat.

Chainsaw of the year

Yes, it went as it went. In the end, there wasn’t much to do but put the chainsaw into the mahogany racer Lumber Pile. Or what little was left of it. (Photo: Rikard Eriksson)

After being exhibited in a stand at Allt för sjön where the threat to the preservation of the Swedish wooden boat culture was highlighted, it was the end of the road for Sweden’s first Wet Rod – the Boghammar racer Lumber Pile.

During the loading from the fair, it could be established that there was nothing left to build on.

After endless rebuilds and changes topped off with years of neglect, the boat had paid off.

Now another classic sails on the eternal seas, far away from the archipelago in which she was once launched.
