Vējonis notes that traditionally at the event in honor of the founding of LBS at the end of November, the basketball company looks back at the past season, presenting awards for the past year, as well as discusses current events and what to do at the annual meeting of LBS members.
Taking into account the limitations of Covid-19 in Latvia, this time the face-to-face meeting will be missed.
“Taking into account the semi-annual 2019/2020 season and the many international games that did not take place”, the LBS Board decided not to award the “Annual Awards” for the past year, the President of LBS explains.
Vējonis emphasizes that extraordinary circumstances in a non-standard situation have led to the search for and finding non-standard solutions, coaches sharing ideas and experience on social networks on how to organize work when team training in the gym is not possible.
He also highlights the recent victory of Latvian 3×3 basketball players in a high-level international tournament and the successful run of the European Women’s Championship qualification tournament organized in Latvia, expresses hope that we will overcome “the big challenge of 2020 and look back on an interesting season at the end of 2021”.
On November 26, 1923, representatives of Latvia’s largest sports associations founded the Latvian Basketball Union to organize competitions, as well as to represent the country in international sports life.
