Novak Djokovic leads the way in terms of most matches played and won at the Olympics. However, his winning percentage is not the best as three players have maintained a 100% record.
Djokovic, a 24-time Grand Slam champion, won his first gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, marking his fifth appearance at the Games. It’s no surprise, then, that he holds the record for most matches played, currently at 25.
With this year’s Olympics at Roland Garros, Djokovic’s total has increased by six matches, moving further away from Roger Federer, who sits in second place with 18 matches. Kei Nishikori is a close third with 16 matches. Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal are tied for fourth with 14 matches each, followed by Fernando Gonzalez and Juan Martin del Potro.
Of the seven players with the most appearances at the Olympics, only Djokovic and Nishikori have competed in the singles event at Paris 2024.
When it comes to match wins, Djokovic now leads the way. Before Paris 2024, he was tied with Federer. Meanwhile, Murray, a two-time singles gold medalist, has a near-perfect record at the Olympics.
Fernando Gonzalez, representing Chile, has won three medals at two Olympic Games, including two in singles and one in men’s doubles. At the 2004 Athens Games, he won bronze in singles, and four years later, he finished runner-up to Nadal in the final of the 2008 Beijing Games.
Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro has also competed in two Olympic Games, winning medals both times. At the 2012 London Games, he beat Djokovic in the bronze medal match, and at the 2016 Rio Games, he finished second to Murray.
The top ten men with the most titles on clay are led by Rafael Nadal with 63, while Djokovic won his 20th title.
Novak Djokovic won the men’s singles gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games, leaving Carlos Alcaraz to settle for silver. Kei Nishikori competed in his fourth Olympics in Paris, having previously competed at London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. His only medal came in Brazil, where he beat Nadal to take bronze. In London and Tokyo, he reached the quarterfinals, while in Paris he was eliminated in the first round.
Rafael Nadal triumphed for Spain, winning gold at the 2008 Beijing Games by defeating Gonzalez. However, he was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2016 Rio Olympics by Del Potro. He also won a gold medal in doubles in Rio. The 2024 Paris Games marked his likely final appearance, where he lost in the second round in singles and in the quarterfinals in doubles.
Andy Murray has played 13 singles matches at the Olympics, winning 12 of them. His only loss came in his first-ever match at the Games, when he was upset by Lu Yen-hsun in the first round at Beijing 2008. Murray went on to win gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016. Unfortunately, he missed Tokyo 2020 due to injury and will only compete in doubles at the Paris Games. His winning percentage stands at 92.31%, which is not the best compared to Alexander Zverev, Andre Agassi, Miloslav Mecir and Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who all have 100% winning percentages but have only played in one Olympic Games.
Although Federer has one Olympic gold medal, he won it in the men’s doubles at the Beijing 2008 Games alongside Stan Wawrinka. The 20-time Grand Slam champion finished fourth at the Sydney Games, was eliminated in the second round at Athens 2004, reached the quarterfinals at Beijing 2008 and finished runner-up to Murray at the London 2012 Games.
Novak Djokovic’s record 19 Olympic victories are spread across his appearances in 2008, 2012, 2021 and 2024. He won bronze in Beijing, finished fourth in London, was eliminated in the first round in Rio, finished fourth again in Tokyo and finally won gold in Paris.
