The Best Actors of 2023: Top Performances and Award-Worthy Roles

I really tried to urge it this year. The first time I ran into the rest of the editorial team was probably in February, but we’re a lazy bunch. Even if not, lazy is not the right word, we are a busy bunch and managing to shoot video content, make reviews, write VIMka and still have a regular job and life is sometimes really hard, so the first part of the last look back at last year’s extremely successful the film year comes only now, at the end of March, and I’m actually still quite happy that we managed to do it at least that way. And don’t worry, the continuation of this traditional cube of ours will arrive soon. So without further ado, here’s a rundown of the best actors, most impressive scenes, biggest events, best fights, funniest scenes, biggest weirdos and also the best soundtracks of 2023.

THE BEST ACTOR

Editorial tip Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy is a great actor, but if he hadn’t known Christopher Nolan, he probably would never have become a star. But their friendship and cooperation paid off for both of them in Oppenheimer, and I’m terribly glad that the charismatic Irishman went for a prize that could catapult him a few levels higher. That he has the acting chops has been shown for many years. And that Oscar was without a doubt deserved. Murphy’s Oppenheimer is the driving force of the entire film and managed to captivate the audience as he enthusiastically explored even as he came to terms with what he had created and what his creation could bring to the world. Even in the moments when he found himself at the bottom and the world turned its back on him. Murphy had been waiting for two decades for such a large, but mainly distinctive and multi-layered role. And he played it like a king. (Mr. Hlad)

Cival’s personal tip: Timothée Chalamet – Chalamet has been hitting with absolute regularity in recent years, and thanks to Duna, this year will be his. At the same time, it is not surprising that the studio Warner Bros. he precedes, because he pulled off the flamboyant Wonka perfectly. And even in “all singing, all dancing” mode!

KarlaR’s personal tip: Chris Pine – It took seven long years for Chris Pine to return to Chris Pine mode, i.e. to the chatty main character of a big genre film who gets into everything. And I have to say, I missed it terribly! Perhaps the Star Trek 4 will be there in the end, when the second Dungeons isn’t even on the table.

Personal tip Mr. The Hunger: Leonardo DiCaprio – Leonardo DiCaprio is an acting god, we all know that, and I don’t think anyone has a problem with that. He has an Oscar and a reputation as the biggest ace in his field, so now he obviously likes to look for challenges, and he found the perfect one in Killers of the Blooming Moon. For almost four hours, he manages to be perfectly unlikeable, repulsive in character, cowardly, obtuse and despicable. And yet I couldn’t take my eyes off him and his performance. And actually, he wished a little that things wouldn’t turn out so badly for him. It’s hard to say if anyone else could play the role like that.

Rimsy’s Personal Tip: Robert De Niro – He did it again. After a few years, the greatest actor of all time reminded us again that he still has more to do than croon in senility in the style of the Pappa Mia movies! or Grandpa, the terror of the family. Scorsese has prepared a role for him in Killers of the Blooming Moon, which does not attract as much attention as Leonardo DiCaprio or Lily Gladstone, but creates a dark underbelly of the whole plot. Ninth Oscar nomination fully deserved.

Personal tip to_Oda: Robert Downey Jr. – A well-deserved Oscar and well-deserved recognition from colleagues and Hollywood as such. Personally, I think that Downey’s (and many others’) performances in the Marvel movies are definitely not funny, and there could have been more nominations during his career, however, as Lewis Strauss, the counterweight to Robert J. Oppenheimer in Nolan’s opus, he was absolutely sensational, he stole all the scenes for himself, and during the subsequent ride with all the film awards, he then confirmed that in terms of charisma and style, few actors today can match him.

TedGeorge’s Personal Tip: Matt Damon – Not that I don’t enjoy Matt as the strict military overseer of the town of Los Alamos in Oppenheimer, but I’m going to give him a thumbs up mainly because of the good retro Air: The Birth of a Legend. I was rooting for the stubborn basketball expert Sonny from start to finish. The fact that Amazon paid him 30 mega for the grateful part and he quite surprisingly became the fourth highest paid actor last year is just the icing on the cake.

Croma Personal Tip: Brandan Fraser – Hezoun from The Mummy is gone. Instead of him, here is a character actor collecting Oscars. Brendan Fraser may have changed beyond recognition, but as an actor he is growing role by role. And for that he deserves great admiration. His urgent acting goes well with his new majestic figure and we can’t help but look forward to his next film.

Jokol’s personal tip: Samuel Theis – His character in Anatomy of a Fall is talked about as the one who conquers any society in seconds with just his presence. A person who walks into a room and the attention is his. Charisma incarnate. And even though Samuel Theis is only in the French Oscar for a few minutes, that’s exactly what he exudes. All it takes is a few very strong interactions where he sells his character with such verve that I can’t get his performance out of my head for some Fridays. And he’s just talking a little loudly with his wife.

Personal krauset tip: Jeffrey Wright – Jeffrey Wright caught me even more than in American Fiction, where he is understandably also excellent – sarcastic, thoughtful, mistrustful, holding the rage of both the writer and the ethnic, he caught me as General Gibson in Asteroid City, where he recites a brisk monologue presenting his life story and the story of science 20 .century. Unsurprisingly, his previous collaboration with Wes Anderson in The French Dispatch resulted in perhaps his best performance to date.
