Surely you have read the acronyms on more than one occasion PAS, but do you know what they call? «Today it is known by the term PAS, highly sensitive person, a personality trait scientifically called sensory processing sensitivity. It is a personality trait, not a disease, a condition, “explains Virginia Penedo, a specialist psychologist certified in high sensitivity by the Association of High Sensitivity Psychologists and Professionals, as well as a yoga instructor, with a center in Narón.

Although more and more publications and personality tests are spreading on social networks to discover if you are a highly sensitive person, there is a lot of misinformation. What is it really to be a PAS person? “You can be a sensitive person on a cognitive and emotional level. They are people who live each emotion intensely, that is, they get more excited but also suffer more in the face of stressful events or difficult day-to-day circumstances, “explains the expert.

Virginia, also yoga instructor, defends the benefits of this technique for PAS people. Specifically, this Sunday he will teach a class in the Naroese Samsara yoga studio in which they will integrate an emotional regulation technique with a yoga session focused on helping to learn to manage this sensitivity. «Yoga and meditation are very good tools for people with high sensitivity. The highly sensitive person can perceive the emotional states of other people, without speaking, they can perceive that something is wrong with them. They are easy to help. With yoga and these tools we help them to be aware of these states, for example, what happens in their body when they get angry in order to help regulate the most intense emotions », she details.

The psychologist explains that high sensitivity has four pillars. “Depth of information processing, that is, making a deep analysis of the perceived stimuli that results in a more intense response,” she details. She adds that “they have a great emotionality and capacity for empathy.” Also, PAC people “show more extreme reactions due to living and feeling intensely.” And they are “more sensitive to subtleties in the environment, such as smells, tastes, texture, or visual stimulation,” she lists.

They are affected by excess information and overload of stimuli. “The highly sensitive person saturates much more than a person without this trait, so sometimes they need more rest,” he recommends.

“They feel weird”

Virginia recognizes that more and more people are interested in this personality trait, she identifies herself and, when she learns that her studio in Narón is specialized in this, she attends a session. «We give normality and understanding to the people who come. The person leaves much more relieved because she sees that nothing is happening. Before they know what it is, they think they are weird », she emphasizes.
