Heart mortality is lowest in the summer months when there is sunshine. The heat dilates the blood vessels and the pressure in them decreases. This is what cardiologist Prof. Sotir Marchev said about the benefits of the sun on bTV.
He also explained that in the summer, the sun’s rays are a very good immunostimulant that kills bacteria. In addition, the naturally obtained vitamin D is very useful, combined with outdoor movement can significantly improve our health.
It is also very good for people with psoriasis to be outside on sunny days.
However, anything too much is harmful, reminded Prof. Marchev. He also explained the harm caused by excessive exposure to the sun.
“During the hottest hours of the day, it’s good to hide because sunlight ages the skin and can change its DNA. That’s why even in the desert, people cover themselves with white clothes and always wear something on their head. The siesta is especially useful, which is practiced in hot countries like Spain. It has been proven to prolong life. You shouldn’t go to the solarium all year round. It’s all about the balance – neither hiding from the sun all the time, nor overdoing it,” explained the cardiologist.
He added that on the beach we should not immediately burn, but gradually increase the dose of sun every day.
Summer is also the most favorable for those who want to become parents. The sun has a positive effect on sex hormones, Marchev explained.
He added that when exposed to the sun, we must consider the medications we take and their effect on our skin if we sunbathe.
The specialist also mentioned an interesting feature. Marchev explained that men eat more during the summer months, while women can even lose their appetite because of the heat.
