The Benefits of Gamepass and Its Impact on the Gaming Industry

I see it a bit differently, but somehow I agree with you. Even though I have gamepass from the beginning, but also every time I have to buy a fucking playstation to play exclusives. Which I hope will come to an end now, because they are also coming out more often on PC now, which is still my fave, just because of mods.

Gamepass really saves me a lot of money. I used to buy almost every game. And I’m not the person who sells them afterwards. But I’ve done enough bad buys unfortunately, or yes games that you only play a few times.

Thanks to gamepass and play anywhere/gameshare, I never have to buy games twice to play with my girlfriend. And sometimes an extra time to play on the PC. That is almost completely a thing of the past. I know I’m not the average gamer at all, but there are quite a few people like me. In addition, trying a game via streaming is even more convenient because I don’t have to make room. And no I’m not too bad to expand. For example, my PC has 18TB, and both consoles have 3TB.

It’s been so long that games are getting worse, I don’t see that changing, but don’t blame gamepass at all. More from the herd that Fifa buys every year, or packages, boxes, etc. in a store.

I understand the idea that a service such as gamepass you don’t really “have” your games anymore, but it has often turned out that a game on a disc often no longer is. But you can always buy your favorite game later if it’s dirt cheap, and in the meantime you play it via gamepass.

Maximizing profit is no longer a good product. Except for outliers. Here too I see the advantage somewhere, because you no longer buy those games. Because if you did, and you sold more afterwards, you still fed that maker. Now you do that a lot less. I know that gamepass also pays those creators, but that is through constructions and not through my grant.

In addition, there are enough stories from makers that gamepass has a positive impact on their sales. As more people have access, they try, etc, it gets talked about and shared. And with that sales.

It’s really not the case that a maker gets you 10 euros. MS clearly makes constructions, and putting out a good game always gives more income than a bad one. And there nkg is the other side of the coin. Because gampass exists, more makers will be able to take more risks. And no that’s not contradicting myself, that’s just not all that black and white. I understand the “fear” of not having anything in your hands, abbo prices that go up every year, etc. But that’s actually buying games too.

When I consider that I had to buy 500 euros PS5, and then all the exclusives (I don’t know anyone is forcing me), I count 70 to 80 euros x 12 games. Extra controller and also have to spend money to play online, I easily get over 1500 euros. I have my RTX 4090 for that.

I don’t just look at what gamepass stands for, but what t stands for. That is against something that is seriously anti-consumer and ps fanboys are going to love me but it is true.

Every time a new controller per gen. No battery/batteries in controllers, stick drift like crazy. Remakes every time. You can even play Xbox games on your PC 4090 ultra rtx.
And yes PC gaming is expensive lately. But come on when you want to play an old game again in 3 years, it doesn’t look good. How MS arranged it just scales with your hardware. Adds HDR, etc.
And then I’m not even talking about the bags of money that are given to creators to keep them from other platforms… Gamepass and how MS does it creates competition. With the xbox one MS was dragged through the shit by always online, digital content etc which is now the norm. Yes kinect made it more expensive, and the one was a bit slower. But like the controller for the disabled, MS really made leaps and bounds. PS want nothing but every time you buy everything again every gen. They have been against crossplay for years! How can you support something like that? (not that you do this but in general)

I can see gamepass working via an app on your TV, mobile etc. In Asia alone, that will open the door for more people to enjoy the great games. Whenever I’m in Thailand, for example, I think it’s really sad that they can’t afford a console. So they play crazy games on their cell phones for some change.

Again I try not only to look from my world, but a bit more outside of it. Even though I give examples from my situation, but that is more to sketch an antithesis. In addition, buying individual games is not going to change for a long time. Gamepass can live alongside it, with benefits for those customers. I find games as a live service a much worse problem. Bad half games, loot boxes etc. Those have really been killers of the industry. But then I come from the old days. Buy C&C on 2 CDs and enjoy years of enjoyment from 1 game. You rarely have that now. Even GTA is totally screwed up by it.

I hope gamepass shakes up the industry so more people can enjoy having a fun night together. The barrier to buying a game is gone. Enough gems found that way. Like Grounded. Totally not my genre, but more than 200 hours already with several friends. Even with guests who don’t have xbox. And that’s the biggest seller of gamepass I think. It is made easier for you to play on.

I certainly understand the counterarguments, but change is always weird. We are creatures of habit. I wish I could turn on “playstation pass” for a month or 2 to play those super story games. Who knows when the PS6 will come out in 2028… one can dream.
