“The Benefits and Risks of Drinking Tea: Insights from a Health Specialist”

Tea contains various mineral elements, antioxidants, and vitamins, all of which are essential and beneficial to the human body.

And Dr. Andrei Tyagilnikov, a primary health care specialist at the Ministry of Health in Moscow, revealed: Eating a moderate amount of tea per day is beneficial, because it contains the antioxidant tannin. But when you drink too much tea, this substance begins to hinder the absorption of iron from food. Therefore, in order for the body to get the benefit from drinking tea, you must drink 3-4 cups of it a day, and not take it instead of water.

Insomnia

He explained that excessive tea consumption can lead to insomnia and increased arousal because it contains caffeine. In addition, it has diuretic properties.

He said, “Tea leaves contain various mineral elements, antioxidants and vitamins. All of these substances are necessary and beneficial to the human body. For example, polyphenols help prevent the development of atherosclerosis, diabetes and high blood pressure.” But drinking tea is not a way to prevent diseases, according to Russia Today.

How to prepare tea

The specialist pointed out that tea must be brewed properly in order to get the required benefit from it. For brewing black tea, a water temperature of 100 degrees Celsius should be used, and for green tea, the water temperature should be 60-80 degrees Celsius. Tea should be consumed as soon as it is brewed, because after some time it loses all its beneficial properties.

He added, “Tea can be re-fermented, as black tea leaves can be brewed twice, while green tea can be brewed 3-4 times without harming health. As for tea bags, it is not recommended to brew them more than once.”
