Co-location of the Kiel ferry and the Danish boat on the Vippetangen in Oslo will pay off socially economically and provide better climate accounting, a new study shows.
– The fjord city benefits from the fact that the ferries gather at Vippetangen, says director of planning and development at the Port of Oslo, Espen Dag Rydland, in a press release.
Socio-economic analysis and Asplan Viak have carried out two studies for the Port of Oslo. An alternative for co-locating the foreign ferries was Kongshavn southeast of Oslo. That option comes out worse in both reports.
– It is estimated that emissions will be up to 19 times higher if Kongshavn becomes the location for a new ferry terminal, says Heidi Neilson, section leader for Planning and Environment at the Port of Oslo.
If Color Line and DFDS come together at Vippetangen, travelers to or from Denmark and Germany will be within walking distance of all the attractions in Bjørvika, Kvadraturen and central Oslo. They also get a short distance to Oslo S and the journey on to the rest of the country.
A co-location at Vippetangen means that Color Line will be moved from Hjortnes, which thus frees up the large Filipstad area west of Aker brygge for residential and urban development.
The decision on the location of the new ferry terminal will ultimately be taken by the city council in Oslo.
