The “Dream Home” trait in Starfield character creation is enticing as it gives you a luxurious home straight away. However, that comes with a hefty mortgage of 125,000 credits. Here you can find out why the choice is still worthwhile and how you can find and pay off your dream house.

Dream Home Feature in Starfield

In character creation at the start of Starfield, you can Select the “Dream House” feature. This has the following effect:

You own a luxurious, customizable home on a peaceful planet! However, the mortgage at GalBank is 125,000 credits and it has to be paid weekly.

That sounds good and bad at the same time. However, the downside sounds worse than it really is once you know the details. We would recommend you to choose this feature. We explain why below.

As soon as you have completed the first main quest “One small step” and are in the lodge, you will unlock the activity “Visit your dream house on Nesoi”. Activate the quest to find it quickly. It is located on the planet Nesoi in the Olympus system just east of Alpha Centauri.

In the planetary view, your house is also given directly as a landing point. The house is in an autumnal wooded setting surrounded by mountains.

If you interact with the front door, you will immediately get the message that you can only enter the house after paying the mortgage. Alternatively, you can pay interest of 500 credits to use the house for a week. These 500 credits are not deducted from the 125,000 credits. Until you pay the purchase price, you only rent the house with this amount.

If you agree to pay the 500 credits, the doors will open directly for you. The house has the following rooms:

• Two floors connected by a staircase.
• Two bedrooms.
• Two bathrooms.
• A large living area on each floor.
• A kitchen with a cooking station on the ground floor.
• Spacious terrace with a beautiful view, barbecue, seating and table tennis.

Pay off your dream house or get rid of it?

Let’s get to the awkward part. Activate the Discuss the Mortgage with Landry Hollifeld in New Atlantis activity and go to the quest marker in the business district of New Atlantis. This will lead you to the GalBank reception.

Talk to Landry, who initially only wants to offer you a job. Only when you speak to him a second time can you select the option “I want to talk to you about my house on Nesoi.” choose. You can then have the payment options explained to you. You have the following two options:

• Pays the mortgage of 125,000 credits in one go: Then the house is completely yours.
• Foreclosure: The bank takes back the house and you are rid of the financial problem.

However, you don’t have to decide directly and you can say that you still want to think about it. There is no time limit. So you can postpone this decision until the endgame. At this point, you will have tons of credits to finally buy it. Therefore, you have no disadvantages from choosing this trait. There is no monthly rate or anything like that that is automatically deducted from your account.

If you want to use it until then, you simply pay the weekly interest of 500 credits and you can already start decorating and setting up. But beware: If you then return it, all of your items in it will also be lost. So remove them BEFORE you make this decision with the bank clerk.
