Very small businesses (VSEs) have mostly benefited from the system
In one year, 7,670 companies have benefited from a loan guaranteed by the State, for an amount of 1.1 billion euros in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques. A figure which peaked in March 2020, with 4,432 beneficiary companies, before falling to 320 companies in July 2020, to peak around a hundred between August 2020 (97) and February 2021 (94). Even if, in November 2020, the date of the second confinement, a slight jump was observed, with 160 beneficiary companies.
In detail, the Banque de France indicates that it is the very small companies (less than 10 employees) which are the most demanding: they are 6,962 to be beneficiaries, or more than 90%. They are well ahead of the 351 or so small and medium-sized beneficiary companies (4.5%), which themselves widen the gap with large companies, numbering 12 (0.15%).
The loans guaranteed by the State first benefited the repair and automobile trade sectors of activity, with 1,807 businesses assisted (23%), and accommodation and food services, with 1,274 beneficiary businesses ( 16.6%). The construction sector (889, or 11.6%) and manufacturing industry (617, or 8%) follow.
