The bells of the church of Mirepeisset have a history

Over time, the vibrations of the bells installed in the windows of the Saracen tower of the Saint-Sébastien church cracked the pillars. To strengthen the building, two reinforced concrete floors with special reinforcement were poured. After this work, the bells were installed on an oak belfry resting on the upper floor. In 1998, the Granier d’Hérépian establishments, specialists in building watchmaking, were entrusted with this delicate project. The bells bear numerous inscriptions. The one on the right sounds C in the 4th octave, weighs 260 kg and was melted at Louison in Toulouse. It was given in 1859 to the church by Marie Tarbouriech née Vidal under the first names of Pierre, Sébastien, Marie, Eugénie. Baptized by the priest Barthes she had as godfather Pierre Vidal and Marie-France as godmother. The left bell, a collared bell, rings the D in the 4th octave, was cast at Louison’s in Toulouse and blessed in 1851. The Mirepeissetois hear the church bells ringing every day for the Angelus at 12 and 19 hours but also during masses and religious ceremonies. They bear witness to the life of our elders and occupy an important place in the life of the village.
