The Beginning of the Norovirus Outbreak in China: Intestines, Transmission to Symptoms

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – Recently, the Chinese Health Authority stated that there had been a new outbreak caused by norovirus.

Even though vaccines and drugs for the Covid-19 virus have not been found.

Norovirus is actually not a new virus.

Norovirus is the leading cause of acute intestinal infection (gastroenteritis) worldwide.

This was revealed, a specialist in disease consultant Gastroenterology Hepatology and a professor at the Department of Internal Medicine FKUI-RSCM, Prof. Dr. Dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, SpPD (K) MMB, FINASIM, FACP, in his statement, Monday (18/10/2020).

Dr. Ari said, this virus also exists in Indonesia as reported by Indonesian researchers in international journals, one of which has just been published in the Journal of Medical Virology in May 2020 which was reported by Dr. Junastuti, et al from the Institute of Tropical Disease, Airlangga University.

In the journal, it was reported that of the 91 stool samples examined, 14 samples or 15.4 percent contained Norovirus.

The research sample, which was conducted in early 2019, was taken from several hospitals in the city of Jambi.

Similar cases have also been reported from several cities in Indonesia.
