Suara.com – Scientists discover species Beetle 230 million years old, preserved in fossil dung dinosaur ancestor.
This species is a new beetle family, and ate the ancestors of dinosaurs during the Triassic.
The findings give experts the opportunity to learn about ancient gut bacteria, parasites in animal waste.
“We didn’t know what insects were like during the Triassic, and now we have a chance,” said Martin Fikasek, an entomologist at National Sun Yat-sen University. CNET, Thursday (1/7/2021).
Using the synchronous microdomography method, experts check for contaminants.
This technique allows 3D visualization of the internal structures within the fossil with high resolution and contrast.
The researchers found that the beetle’s legs and antennae remained intact. Often, the chemical composition of coprolites helps to preserve organisms.
The group eventually named it Triamixa Coprolitica. When alive, these animals can live in semi-aquatic or humid environments.
The beetle was largely excreted and excreted by the ancestor of the two-meter-long apex dinosaur, Silcerus opolensis.
