The Italian Government will end next season with the Crescita Decree (known as the ‘Beckham law’), in which clubs are entitled to a 50% reduction in taxes on foreign players’ salaries. The measure will increase clubs’ expenses and reduce footballers’ interest in playing in the country.

This decision was taken by the Council of Ministers, which – according to the Italian press – was “very tense”, with Matteo Salvini, vice-president of the Italian Government, being one of those who most defended the end of the ‘Beckham law’, considering that continuing this benefit “would be immoral”.

Serie A expressed great concern, noting that this would take away “teams’ competitiveness, with less ticket sales and resources for training and also less tax revenue”.
