When the sun is strong, where do we cool off?

Did you know ? New York City has more than 22 kilometers of beach! Open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, they are all free and above all allow you to unwind, far from the heat and the incessant activity of the city. Small selection of 5 New York beaches, to make a sunny day rhyme with a wet outing.

1 – Coney Island, the beach for everyone
It is certainly the beach the most famous in New York, and for good reason: huge, it is bordered by a large amusement park, very popular with children when they have reconstituted Venice in sand, 3 times.
The beach therefore combines new and old, children and adults, sportsmen and prawns, all in a very energetic atmosphere; a typical day often ends with a small hot dog from home Nathan’s, a real institution of the city.

2 – Cherry Grove Beach, the beach for everyone
Since the 1960s, the beach Cherry Grove is particularly popular with the LGBT community, which enjoys its beautiful stretches of sand, its look of a small, lost beach, which can only be accessed by small paths.
The beach is located on Fire Island, a very thin tongue of land (48 km long and 1 km wide) which runs along the south of Long Island. Many celebrities reside there, so don’t be surprised to meet Ethan Hawke or Uma Thurman.
3 – Rockaway Beach, the beach for surfers
This pretty beach of Queens has everything the same as the others, sand, water, sun, but also everything that surfers dream of: beautiful waves, a great surf club, the Rockaway Surf Club, and something to silence your board mates who strut in California.
The beach has all of a hipster beach, but don’t be discouraged for all that to plant your parasol. In addition, when you are done drinking the cup on your bodyboard, you can take a trip to the small restaurants in the area, and taste a delicious fish taco.
4 – Orchard Beach, the only public beach in the Bronx
Nicknamed the “Riviera of New York City”, Orchard Beach was established in 1936, and has since attracted many New York in swim briefs. It has since become the meeting point for the Bronx and New York City, allowing everyone to enjoy the sun and the fine sand.
You also get amazing views of City Island, and, between 2 grilling sessions (from your body), you can go grill some sausages at the picnic areas or play volleyball on one of the lots.
5 – Brighton Beach
Nice beach of Brooklyn, Brighton Beach is known as the “Little Odessa” of the area, and takes you on a trip to Eastern Europe. Here, you find vodka and black bread, and you can wave your napkin neighbors in Russian, but the atmosphere is undeniably very warm.
This little beach is not very far from Coney Island but is very different: the crowd is not as crowded there, the atmosphere is not as electric and its boardwalk is full of small shops ideal for making good little pirojki, borshtch or goloubtsy .
