ZELL AM MAIN, LKR. WURZBURG. After two fires in October 2022 and on New Year’s Eve, the Würzburg criminal police made a breakthrough in the investigation. An urgent suspect has been identified. He is accused of intentionally setting fire to two fire brigade training vehicles and several garbage cans.
As already reported, on the evening of October 3rd, 2022, two training vehicles caught fire on the premises of the Zell am Main volunteer fire brigade. This resulted in property damage of around 500 euros. In the course of the subsequent investigations, there were quick indications that the fire had been set intentionally. The perpetrator was initially unknown.
In the early New Year’s morning, another fire broke out, in which several garbage cans burst into flames in a wooden shelter on Austrasse (the Würzburg-Land Police Inspectorate reported). A home and two vehicles were also damaged in the fire. The total amount of damage in this case is estimated at around 20,000 euros. Luckily nobody was injured.
In both cases, the Würzburg criminal police took over the further investigations. Gradually, a man from the district of Würzburg emerged as the suspect. He is a member of the fire brigade himself and has now admitted to being responsible for the fires on October 3rd and on New Year’s Eve. The accused now has to answer in criminal proceedings.
