The film shows how Ludwig I shaped Bavaria and the Bavarians like no other. Even as crown prince, the future King of Bavaria, Ludwig I, was considered to be an outspoken art connoisseur and lover. He was an admirer and promoter of classicism who, after his enthronement, fulfilled his dream of a patriotic monument at a strategically important location, the Theresienwiese. At the same time, he wanted to use an imposing structure to show off his inner independence from Napoleon I. Descendants of Ludwig I have their say, for example Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, born in 1982, and Dr. Auguste Princess of Lippe-Weißenfeld, née Princess of Bavaria, born in 1979.
