The Baudelaire high school in Roubaix ready for a doubling of classes

Saw the deterioration of sanitary conditions in Roubaix (North) and the number of cases of Covid-19 exploding in the city, teachers of the Baudelaire high school got started striking to get half-size classes.

Morning or afternoon lessons

How will the duplication of classes take place? The pupils will have lessons every day, per half-day, “to maintain pedagogical continuity”.

The young people have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon. It is possible to eat in the canteen, but the workforce will be reduced because many will eat at home.

Concerns remain. Baudelaire College is not affected by this measure. However, if there are fewer students per class (around 25), the class sizes are smaller than in high school. Physical distancing is therefore impossible to respect in the rooms, as in the corridors and the canteen. Teachers therefore also hope to see the duplication of staff at colleges and remain mobilized.

What about the exams?

Also, a question concerns the 2021 bac exams. “We are against continuous assessment, because we find it stigmatizing for our students. A student who has a good average may be perceived differently because he comes from Roubaix. A national exam is fairer, ”explains Sophie.

For the bac, part of the exams must take place in March 2021. Baudelaire teachers hope that everything will be postponed to June 2021 at the national level, and not only in Roubaix.
