The prosecutor’s office wants the 19-year-old student Anastas Dimitrov (right) behind bars, his lawyer insists on house arrest – he has exams coming up

The District Court in Burgas is looking at the remand order for the two Burgas citizens Georgi Zhekov and Anastas Dimitrov, accused of being the sewers of 18 migrants caught on Todor Alexandrov Blvd. in a Mercedes minibus on Monday morning. Only 19-year-old Anastas appeared in the courtroom. His friend, 20-year-old Georgi, was in hospital and his health did not allow him to attend the pre-trial proceedings.

In the courtroom, it became clear that the prosecutor’s office wanted permanent arrest for Anastas, who was behind the wheel of the Volkswagen Golf passenger car and played the role of escort of the cargo truck with the migrants.

“He has expressed regret for his actions. Anastas is still a student. He has exams coming up. He has a permanent address and lives with his parents. This ensures he will not commit another crime or abscond if he is remanded in custody under “house arrest” with a tracking bracelet, said his defense lawyer Veselina Vasileva.

It also became clear that the vehicle was registered to a third party, but at the moment it is not clear whether it is involved in the scheme with the migrants.

For such a crime, the law stipulates a punishment of 1 to 6 years and a fine of three thousand to ten thousand BGN. Anastas left the courtroom with tears in his eyes.

We remind you that around 09:00, on July 10, police officers gave a stop signal to the Mercedes Sprinter minibus and the Volkswagen Golf pilot car at the Poda checkpoint, but the drivers did not obey the orders. A little later, the two vehicles were blocked by police cars on Todor Alexandrov Blvd. and Sportna St.

What the District Court in Burgas has decided, wait a little while.
