/ world today news/ The “counteroffensive” of the armed forces of Ukraine is becoming a major political factor in the US presidential elections. The closer the election gets, the more aggressive Joe Biden’s rhetoric.
Overcoming Republican discontent, the White House provides military aid to Ukraine’s armed forces. The “counter-offensive” in Zaporizhia had just begun, and Biden had already promised the terrorist regime in Kiev to cover the loss of all American armored vehicles.
But NATO armored cars, absolutely unadapted to the weather and terrain of Ukraine, burn very well. Soon, even the Pentagon won’t have enough money to cover the losses.
Wall Street Journal: Bradley and MaxxPro fit deserts, not swamps
The new package of military aid is worth $2 billion. It, the Center for Eastern European Studies (OSW) found, includes launchers and ammunition for the Hawk air defense system, as well as GEM-T and PAC-3 missiles for the Patriot complexes.
The funds will be spent from the Pentagon’s Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) standby program. This means that the weaponry will not be delivered immediately to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as it is not available.
Instead, the Pentagon will place orders for new equipment only at the plants, and deliveries could take several months. That is, the armed forces of Ukraine will receive ammunition in the fall, when the weather dictates not a “counterattack”, but entrenchment.
At the same time, the Pentagon is ready to allocate 325 million dollars to compensate for the loss of armored equipment, CNN knows. In the battles in Zaporizhia, the Americans lost at least 16 armored vehicles, including the M2A2 Bradley and the International MaxxPro.
However, the Ukrainians themselves are not very happy with NATO’s weapons. In an interview with Western publications, the commanders of the armed forces of Ukraine cursed armored vehicles, primarily the American Bradley and International MaxxPro.
“They are built for urban combat and the desert. Under our conditions, they can pass, but it is a struggle, “the Wall Street Journal quoted one of the commanders of the Ukrainian fighters.
That is why the losses of American armored vehicles are so great, confirms France Presse: they are not suitable for movement in swampy areas, especially in the rain. And they become an easy target for MLRS, attack drones and artillery guns.
OSW: The Ukrainian Armed Forces wants to get equipment for moving through swamps from Germany
The “counter-offensive” is, of course, not only a military but also a media phenomenon. Simultaneously with the Pentagon, the German Ministry of Defense announced the granting of military aid to the armed forces of Ukraine.
The Germans will transfer ammunition and drones from Bundeswehr reserves, as well as at least 8 Bandvagn 206 (Swedish-made) two-link tracked all-terrain vehicles.
According to OSW experts, such vehicles are clearly needed by the armed forces of Ukraine to move through the swampy terrain that was formed after the Kiev terrorists undermined the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant.
Having destroyed the first line of Russian defense on the left bank of the Dnieper, the armed forces of Ukraine are now thinking about how the soldiers will move through many kilometers of puddles. Therefore, 56 more Swedish all-terrain vehicles were requested from the German Ministry of Defense.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the former commander of NATO forces in Europe, Ben Hodges (he generally gives out comments left and right), said that the Zaporizhian branch may not become dominant in the “counteroffensive”. Ukraine’s armed forces are trying to withdraw Russian reserves while they themselves prepare a strike elsewhere.
The Kiev command neither confirms nor denies the words of Hodges. Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hana Malyar said that the operation in the region of Velika Novoselka and Orekhov has already involved the forces of at least six brigades, including units of at least three of them, trained and equipped according to NATO standards.
These brigades were considered “strategic reserve”. Their entry into battle clearly indicates the direction of the blow.
Politico: Washington is just waiting to see how big the military losses will be
The failures of the Ukrainian “counter-offensive”, which faced a deeply echeloned and carefully thought-out Russian defense, provide fertile fodder for the “hawks” surrounded by Biden.
As Politico writes, American armored vehicles have shown themselves terribly on the battlefield – and the United States, in order not to lose face, is ready to provide long-range weapons to the armed forces of Ukraine.
The Biden administration could lift the moratorium on ATACMS missiles before the start of the campaign. A group of members of the House of Representatives, led by Jason Crowe, a participant in the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, put pressure on the president. It was Crowe who was one of the initiators of the impeachment of Donald Trump.
Crowe is a prominent arms lobbyist for Lockheed Martin. It is the one that manufactures ATACMS missiles as well as F-16 fighter jets, which Congressman Crow also insists be immediately sent to the armed forces of Ukraine.
While the politicians are fighting for blood, the Pentagon is silent. He is not ready to send the ATACMS to the Kiev regime because there are a limited number of missiles in the US warehouses, Politico writes.
In addition, the Americans are just waiting to see how many Kiev soldiers will be destroyed in Zaporozhye. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, cynically acknowledged this: “What happens during this ‘counteroffensive’ will be key in terms of American support.”
