Jakarta –
The opportunity to become the 2023 MotoGP world champion is wide open. Francesco Bagnaia is now being chased by Jorge Martin. The two are only three points apart from the remaining six series. If there was a team order to make Bagnaia’s steps smooth, what would Jorge Martin do?
Bagnaia and the factory Ducati team have the goal of becoming the MotoGP incumbent. Instead of running smoothly, Bagnaia is now facing resistance from the Ducati satellite team rider, Jorge Martin. Bagnaia still leads with a three-point advantage over Martin.
Isu team order had colored Pecco’s victory with Ducati in 2022. With eight motorbikes on the track, it is not difficult to give team orders. Even though Ducati officials have denied this.
Last year, Enea Bastianini, as a non-factory racer, was too aggressive in attacking Bagnaia. Not to mention the action of Johann Zarco who seemed to slow down his motorbike to finish fourth in the 2022 Thailand MotoGP.
Prima Pramac Racing racer Jorge Martin agreed that last year he received orders not to be aggressive towards factory team racers.
“Yes, there is. They told us that we have to be careful, so that you can’t catch up with him,” said Jorge Martin, quoted from Crash.net, Sunday (8/10/2023).
Martin said there were no orders this year team order, the situation is also different. Ducati has broken its fast for victory. Apart from that, Jorge Martin feels he has the same opportunity to become world champion. He will not listen to Ducati team orders.
“This year not. And even if Ducati tells me something, I don’t want to listen,” he explained.
“Last year, when he no longer had a choice, they tried to help him, the most important thing is we have to be careful with him if we want to overtake him,” he explained again.
Martin revealed that he had the momentum to compete with Bagnaia. On the other hand, Bagnaia appeared less than good.
“By beating him in Germany, I improved and he saw it. And every weekend I was there,” he said.
Bagnaia once joked about team orders. This is when Jorge Martin performed well inside sprint race and main race German MotoGP 2023. Bagnaia joked that if Ducati wants to defend the title it must implement team orders.
“If he gets too close, I’ll ask for a team order!” joked Bagnaia, some time ago.
The team order request was just a joke from Bagnaia. In fact, he doesn’t like the team order option. He can fight on his own merits, and the factory team that supports him. Bagnaia doesn’t need help to fulfill the MotoGP world title with a team order, even from the satellite Ducati team.
“The battle with manufacturers or independent teams is always the same. Ducati’s strategy is to provide the best support to all teams, and I think the key to our success is because we can continue to develop. There are definitely pros and cons, but that’s the best way to progress further,” he said.
“I don’t want a team order, last year, Enea could win, and I don’t want a team order now. I don’t need help, I know my potential,” he said bluntly.
Martin has won two of the last three grands prix. He took advantage of Bagnaia’s lackluster performance, who hasn’t shone since his accident in Barcelona. Martin’s ultimate goal is for his achievements to be seen by the factory Ducati team.
“Yes, yes, my goal is to reach the official Ducati team as soon as possible,” he said.
“I achieved results that can prove it, I hope Ducati can appreciate it,” he said again.
