The Batman: Andy Serkis (Alfred) talks about one of the darkest films about the Dark Knight

Finally expected on October 1, 2021 after Warner announced new release dates, The Batman promises to offer spectators a new adaptation of the Dark Knight. If the comics were able to portray a dark character through the many adaptations, it was the same for cinematographic works. Although they are all different, the trilogy of Christopher Nolan, like the apprehension of Batman by Ben Affleck of the DCEU more recently reflected an obscure vigilante, sometimes morose. Nevertheless and according to Alfred Pennyworth’s interpreter Andy Serkis, the feature film by Matt Reeves might offer the darkest adaptation on Gotham’s Dark Knight. Asked about the tone of the film, the actor and director returned to Matt Reeves’ vision, when asked if The Batman depicts a particularly dark character: “I would say that’s the closest thing to the truth” said Andy Serkis.

Andy Serkis will play Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman.

The latter later returned to the link between Bruce Wayne and his character, Alfred, saying: “It’s really an emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce. It’s really at the center of things. It’s an excellent screenplay that Matt Reeves wrote.” If he hasn’t revealed anything about the plot, Andy Serkis finally came back to embody the butler and ally of Bruce Wayne, a role previously held by the famous Michael Caine at Nolan : “He was fantastic. His Alfred was legendary. And I could never match him. You have to create your own character and see what connects you to him.” If it will be interesting to see the actor give a new flavor to the character as we wondered about the consequences of Alfred’s rejuvenation, it is certain that this follower of metamorphoses will be able to offer something new, to a film that promises to be unique in its genre!
