The basic Mercedes-AMG SL 43 arrives with a unique electrified four-cylinder

It is the first production model to use electrified turbocharger technology derived from Formula 1.

After almost sixty years, Mercedes-AMG has introduced a new model that returns a four-cylinder engine under the hood of the SL series. The new AMG SL 43 will be the basis of the offer, which will complement the more powerful versions of the SL 55 4Matic + and SL 63 4Matic +, under the hoods of which is a bi-turbo supercharged 4.0-liter V8 engine.

The basis of the new AMG SL 43 was the 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol M139, which, however, is the first production car to be complemented by electric turbocharger technology, which the carmaker took over from its Formula 1 race cars.

The car is therefore traditionally equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid electrical system that works with a belt driven by a starter-generator. However, in addition to helping the internal combustion engine, the generator also powers a small electric motor in the turbocharger, which spins it until the exhaust gases take on this task.
