The barriers did not start at the crossing, the express train narrowly missed the cars

The event, which was pointed out by the regional Deník.cz, is being investigated by the authorities. The railway administration does not rule out human error. “Two cars passed over the crossing and immediately after, in about two seconds, a train passed. As soon as the driver saw that the barriers were up and cars passed over the crossing, he immediately started honking and braking, “an eyewitness described the letter.

The train then stopped at a level crossing, and only then, according to the witness, did the red lights come on and the barriers went down.

However, according to a spokesman for the Railway Inspectorate, the warning lights were on for a short time. “From the point of view of the Railways Act, this is an extraordinary event that was reported to the Railway Inspectorate. According to the information we have, at 19:33 a.m., while the R 913 train was running, there was only a short eight-second warning flash and the barriers did not close, “said Martin Drápal, spokesman for the inspection, when asked by Práva.

He specified that, according to the information provided by the railway operator, this was not a malfunction of the level crossing equipment. An extraordinary event is under investigation by the railway operator and the carrier. The inspectorate has not yet launched an investigation, but does not rule out that it will launch an additional one.

“I can confirm that the incident has taken place, it is currently in our internal investigation. The Railway Administration, as an investigator, does not rule out the fault of the human factor, “said Marek Illiaš, a spokesman for Právo.

This suggests that the error may have occurred, for example, in the remote operation of the crossing. Illias repeated that the defect was not on the security equipment of this crossing, nor on the barriers.

In the summer, there were a number of serious accidents on the railways. The last time a passenger and business train collided on Wednesday morning in Kdyně in Domažlice.

In July, the Minister of Transport Karel Havlíček (for YES) convened a commission for railway safety, which meets regularly. Some tightening of safety on less busy lines has already taken place, and further measures are planned, such as the withdrawal of train drivers’ licenses for repeated offenses or alcohol.

ODS: Havlíček does not manage traffic

According to the ODS, however, Havlíček is unable to manage the Ministry of Transport, because at the same time he runs the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and according to him, the proof is the growing number of accidents on the railways.

“It is not possible to manage transport part-time. Unfortunately, it is no longer just about destroyed cars from the tragic state of Czech roads, but increasingly also about the health of people, especially especially those who travel by train. It is not possible for semi-minister Havlíček to continue to monitor the growing number of accidents on the railway and pretend that everything is in order, “said ODS transport expert Stanislav Blaha.

According to him, Havlíček should resign and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) to replace him with someone who will devote himself to transport full time.
