There were strong reactions to Ukrainian war refugees being placed in barracks on industrial plots in Groruddalen this spring. “Shameful”, stated several local politicians. “Unworthy”, architectural researchers thought.
The barracks solution, which the operator company Hero had offered in collaboration with the barracks company Room2rent, was no less controversial when the barrack rig on Furuset was immediately closed following an inspection in April.
Both Oslo municipality and the Red Cross expressed concern in April.
“Poor location, poor facilities, noise and dust from heavy traffic and lack of outdoor areas for children”, pointed out city councilor for work, integration and social services, Rina Mariann Hansen (Ap).
But it would turn out that the refugees were going to have a great time.
