The Barcelona taxi requests the AMB to reduce the fleet once the confinement ends
The associations of the taxi sector of the Barcelona Metropolitan Area have requested by means of a letter, addressed to the Metropolitan Institute of Taxi, to which Todo Taxi has had access, the reduction of the taxi fleet in the AMB.
This reduction is understood once the government has completed the confinement of the population, carried out by the current state of alarm due to the coronavirus, and the public transport sector returns to normal.
50% reduction
The proposal of the associations is to reduce the fleet to 50% and work the finished licenses in odd and even numbers, on alternate days.
In the current regulations, 80% of the fleet works on weekdays, since the remaining 20% pounds as a day of rest.
The associations put this proposal on the table since they understand that the lack of refinement will be progressive and it will take time to recover the demand for the taxi service, prior to the state of alarm.
Looking out for climate change
In addition, the positive aspect of this proposal is that traffic congestion would be avoided and pollution would be contained by not emptying taxis.
Finally, they propose to create a regulation monitoring committee with periodic meetings to analyze, update in an agile and frequent way, the current supply-demand of the taxi within the Metropolitan Area, in order to better adapt and optimize the changes that arise.
The signatory associations are the Taxi Union of Catalonia (STAC), the Professional Elite Taxi Association, the New Generation of Taxi Drivers (ANGET), the Association of Pakistani Taxi Drivers of Catalonia (PAK TAXI), the Latinos Unidos Taxi Association (TLU) and the Taxi Companys Group (ATC).
